RE: Camping World Gmac insurance for your travel trailer

GMAC had the best rate for me and I just filed a claim for an awning while I was out of state for 5 weeks. They were great!!!!!

RE: break away cable

Surprise! Nobody who tows with a PullRite TT hitch can ever attach the breakaway cable anywhere but the hitch. The ballmount can travel completely from one side of the truck to the other while in operation. No fixed point on the TV can ever be used for chains or breakaway cable.
Hah! Take that you "you can't hook your breakaway cable to the hitch" people! Let's see you counter THAT one!!! (I "blowing rasberries" in your general direction!) <--- copyright: Monty Python

Great line from Monty Python but I will type the word they used...fart.

RE: break away cable

Does anyone know anyone who had their trailer come off the hitch and had the the safety chains or the brake cable come into play? Just wondering?????
BTW there is an effect in crash reconstruction where the phrase "locked wheels lead". If you lock the rear wheels up it want to rotate to the front (hence "donuts"). I would not want to have my trailer brakes lock if the hitch failed but the chains held.

RE: Cleaning the camper's carpet

We just bought a Bissel Little Green machine. I too, just cleaned the carpet as we were in Alabama for 5 weeks staying in our trailer. It did a GREAT job!

RE: Trailer "suck"

I don't have a dual cam but I added a 2nd friction bar to my 35 foot trailer and towed it over 700 miles. It did have the "suck" before I added the second and now it does not.

RE: Crossed vs. Uncrossed safety chain pictures

Campinfan go ask a state cop! Yes here in Mich. it is the law to have them crossed on ALL trailers. It isn't like there is a difference between TT and others. In a LOT of cases the crosing of chains can be of major importance if something disconnects the trailer (like an accident)keeping the trialer attacted to the tow vieicle and not runnuing down the road on its own.
I looked it up and it just says that there needs to be a chain on each side. I went to michigan.gov and did a search, unless someone can provide a link....
MCL 257.721 just says there have to be two chains.

RE: Crossed vs. Uncrossed safety chain pictures

I know it is law to have safety chains on but I have never seen the part that says they must be crossed. Maybe in Michigan it is written int he law but I have never seen it. I guess I will have to look for that.

I agree witht he people who say slow down. I have a tonneau cover and drive like an old man on the hi-way. 60-65 mph and my mileage is around 13-14 mpg.

RE: bought an ice maker

I got mine at CW for $169.00. I too thought it was an indulgence but the cost of bagged ice, the gas to go get it etc made this a good decision. When the ice gets made, we empty it into a bag and put it into the freezer. The heat index here is over 100 degrees.
Who knows maybe one day I will have satellite tv, a gas fire pit and a fireplace in my rig. Those things I had considered an indulgence but I am vowing not to be so judgemental in the future. When I was a kid camping with my grandparents in the late 60s early 70s, I thought the same thing about air conditioners in rigs.

bought an ice maker

We are down in Alabama for almost 5 weeks so right before we left, I bought a portable ice maker. I have to confess that last year I thought it was funny to have one. We laughed because some friends of ours once complained that theirs kept them awake one night( they were joking. Well, with the 95+ degree heat down here everyday, the ice maker has been a blessing.
My one son is getting some medical therapy right at our campsite for 6 hrs a day so each day the DW or I have to take the other two kids out for the day and keep them busy so we are not distracting our son. The ice is keeping our water nice and cold as we are drinking alot of it each day.

RE: Sale or trade

I know selling is usually better than trading in but when I went to get my new trailer, the dealer offered me $1900.00 less than what I paid for it 3.5 years earlier. That was less than $50.00 a month a town that trailer. Plus I got 33% off the MSRP. I was expecting them to give me half of what they offered. If they would have, I would not have been able to get my new trailer last fall.

I have a F250 with the V10 and my trailer weights are about like yours. Just towed from Michigan to Alabama and no problems.

RE: Broken Awning Knobs..

My new awning has as groove in the knobs so I can use the pull down down rod to tighten the knobs. Works great because I tend to forget to tighten those knobs until the awning is all set up.The new awning is an AE 8500 series with the rain dumping piston.

RE: SEVERE sway with my 2008 cougar304BHS?????

I just put a second friction bar on my 35 footer and was amazed at the difference. Semi's did not suck me in as they passed. I towed for over 740 miles over two days. Before I installed the second bar I towed the trailer 100 miles and it was sort of a white knuckler at times.

RE: LPG Advice on towing

We just towed over 700 miles in 2 days. Frig was on gas and no problem. Never had a problem. Some people say you have to be careful when refueling because you may have an open flame near the gas pumps. My frig has never been even close to the gas pumps when filling the TV.

RE: Inside the Black Tank (YUK!!)

Note you mentioned fantastic fan running. I hate to bust you bubble somewhat, but those fans have been know to suck the hair off a flee if it happens to be sitting on the thrown when valve is opened. It will cause such a back draft down the vent, and up thru the ball valve bring all that nice gas and methane and a hole weeks worth of meals. I believe it would be wise to have the fan off before flushing. Just my Honest Opinion and experience.
Not that vent hasn't dropped some, but that tank would have to be almost filled before the height of that vent pipe had any real effect.
I have heard this about many fans. I find if I keep the fan off while flushing, there are no odors. Good job on the post and the ingenuity to see what was wrong. Hope it was a borrowed camera :)
